China’s Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard Group has ordered a total of four MAN GenSets to power a new deck carrier to be owned by Germany-based United Wind Logistics (UWL).

The specialised carrier will be designed to carry offshore wind-turbine components such as blades, nacelles and towers. It is expected to be delivered by November.

The dynamic positioning (DP2) ready vessel will be 148.5m long and 28m wide. It will be deployed primarily in European waters.

The newly placed order includes two MAN 9L 21/31 and two MAN 6L16/24 GenSets. It also covers options for two additional vessels.

MAN Energy Solutions’ licensee, CMP, is set to build, assemble and fully test the medium-speed engines in China.

The engines will feature a Selective Catalytic Reduction system and will enable UWL to comply with International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Tier III regulations. This will limit nitrogen dioxide (NOx) emissions and is expected to be implemented in the emission-control areas (NECAs) in the North and Baltic Seas before 2021.

MAN previously secured two orders to provide four 8L21/31 variable-speed GenSets (DC grid system) to two new wind service operation vessels (WSOV) that are being built at Cemre Marin Endüstri shipyard in Turkey.

To be operated by France-based Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA), the WSOVs will be utilised for operations and maintenance work at offshore wind farms in the North Sea.
