Malaysia-based MMC Group unit Johor Port (JPB) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Pelabuhan Indonesia I (Pelindo I) to collaborate on the establishment of new roll-on / roll-off (RoRo) activities and shipping connectivity between a selection of their respective ports.

The MoU is based on a strategic logistics collaboration between both ports.

It is slated to cover ports operated by Pelindo I in Aceh and Sumatra in Indonesia, as well as MMC Group-operated ports situated in Peninsular Malaysia, collectively known as MMC Ports.

The MMC Ports comprise JPB and Port of Tanjung Pelepas in Northport, as well as Penang Port and Tanjung Bruas Port in Melaka, Malaysia.

The MoU will also see JPB and Pelindo I explore the potential for further cooperation and other opportunities in various areas of port and logistics business, including the operation and management of both new and existing ports, in addition to joint collaboration on the development of new ports.

JPB chairman Dato’ Sri CheKhalib Mohamad Noh said: “JPB is part of Malaysia’s largest port operator and holds various expertise in ports management with over 40 years’ experience.
