Communication solutions provider Marlink has secured a contract from Danish shipping firm J. Lauritzen to implement fully integrated and managed IT services on all Lauritzen Kosan-managed gas transportation ships.

Based on Marlink’s ITLink portfolio, the KeepUp@Sea platform will enable the ship systems to perform software and security updates automatically.

The solution will automate network monitoring and PC health while providing remote access for fast issue resolution.

Marlink maritime president Tore Morten Olsen said: “Providing our new range of ITLink solutions is a key milestone to enable further automation and digitalisation for Lauritzen Kosan in the liquefied gas ocean transportation sector.

“In an environment with very specific demands within one of the most advanced maritime transportation segments, the unique functionality of our ITLink solutions, including the KeepUp@Sea platform will help to take the firm’s safety, efficiency, reliability, compliance and cost-effectiveness to the next level.”

The new technology deployment will provide Lauritzen Kosan with a complete standardised information and communications technology (ICT) arrangement across its fleet.

The ITLink services will augment ship IT infrastructure and processes, which will contribute to cutting operational cost and improving the stability of onboard networks.

The solution will help to manage Lauritzen Kosan vessel IT network’s cyber resilience and automating manual processes, including file distribution and system updates. Previously, these tasks were quite time-consuming.

Marlink said that its future-ready platform will proactively upgrade Lauritzen Kosan’s IT compliance to meet International Maritime Organization (IMO) requirements.

Lauritzen Kosan vessel IT leader Lars Kirstein said: “IT and operational technology are key to securing the safety of our ships, crews and cargoes. So, it is vital that our onboard systems are always available for updates and increased security.”

In March, Marlink signed an agreement to deliver satellite voice and data connectivity services to Overseas Adventure Travel’s (OAT) five adventure cruise ships.
