International shipping association BIMCO and Shipdex have agreed to support the digitisation of data across the shipping community.

Shipdex is an independent and non-proprietary electronic standard protocol, or a collection of business and writing rules, which are designed to be used by shipowners, shipyards, manufacturers, classification societies and application service providers.

The agreement will see BIMCO become an executive member of the Shipdex steering committee, and both the parties will support the development and exchange of technical and logistic data to help drive efficiency.

In addition, the move will standardise information in the shipping industry, while decreasing the administrative load for ships and administrations.

The agreement was signed by various BIMCO representatives, including Grimaldi Group, Mastermind Shipmanagement, Alfa Laval Tumba, MacGregor Group, Man Diesel & Turbo, Shipdex Consulting, Yanmar Company, G&C Shipping and Rolls Royce.
