Greece-based shipping company TMS Cardiff Gas has awarded a contract to South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) to build a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier.

The arrangement will see the construction of a 174,000m³ carrier ship featuring XDF propulsion and also includes an option for a second vessel.

"Total is an important customer for TMS Cardiff Gas and we look forward to providing them with first-class LNG shipping services as they continue to expand their LNG activities."

The deal forms part of TMS Cardiff Gas’ X Carrier Series of orders, which aims to expand the company’s total fleet of managed vessels to ten units.

Delivery of the new vessel is slated to take place by 2020.

The carrier is set to be operated by Total Gas & Power Chartering under a seven-year time charter contract upon completion.

TMS Cardiff Gas founder Christos Economou said: “We are delighted to secure a new long-term time charter with Total, one of the leading global energy companies.”
