Valmet has won a contract to supply exhaust gas cleaning systems for ten of COSCO Shipping Lines’ container vessels.

The scrubber systems will be installed on the ships in China later this year.

Finland-based company will collaborate with Health Lead Development to implement the project. It did not disclose the contract’s value.

Marine Scrubber Systems’ Pulp and Energy business senior sales manager Shijie Wang said: “The deliveries are good examples of Valmet’s capability to create a tailor-made concept to [the] customer. Thanks to our solution, the scrubber systems can be installed to a single island container vessel without losing any cargo capacity.

“Seamless co-operation within Valmet and with our global supply network made very short delivery times possible.

“The systems are installed before the upcoming International Maritime Organisation sulphur cap and they will enable the use of higher sulphur oil, which is cheaper compared to using lower sulphur oil.”

Delivery of the Chinese shipbuilder’s scrubber system will include an ideal open-loop scrubber system for main engine and generator engines, including auxiliary systems and automation.

Valmet explained that the exhaust gas is washed with seawater in open-loop mode. All emissions are monitored constantly, while the complete exhaust gas scrubber system is controlled by Valmet DNA, the company’s marine automation system.
