Vroon Offshore Services’ (VOS) subsea support walk-to-work (W2W) vessel, VOS Stone, has completed final outfitting and modifications at Damen Shiprepair Oranjewerf (Oranjewerf).

The development follows the completion of a similar project at Oranjewerf in July last year, which involved the vessel’s sister ship VOS Start.

VOS Stone was built at the Fujian Southeast Shipbuilding yard in China before being shipped to the Netherlands for completion.

Oranjewerf conducted a series of operations as part of the eight-week outfitting programme, including the installation of a 50t active heave-compensated, knuckle-boom crane, along with taut-wire systems, RadaScan and Kongsberg’s Hipap solution for the vessel-positioning system.

“Based on the experiences gained from VOS Start, and working with the same expert in-house team and group of sub-contractors, the target completion date was achieved with no compromises.”

Additionally, the project also included the integration of both boat landing and crew-transfer vessel (CTV) fuelling systems.

Damen Shiprepair Oranjewerf commercial manager Jeen van der Werf said: “Based on the experiences gained from VOS Start, and working with the same expert in-house team and group of sub-contractors, the target completion date was achieved with no compromises to our very high standards.”

The project represents the fifth new vessel to be received by Oranjewerf from Vroon for final outfitting following initial construction in China.

VOS Stone is capable of delivering support to offshore operations in the renewable industry, as well as walk-to-work projects in the oil and gas sector.

The vessel has already secured a contract from Royal Boskalis’ subsidiary VBMS to support inter-array cabling operations at the Arkona offshore windfarm, situated in the Baltic Sea off the shore of Germany, during the first half of next year.

In addition, the vessel has been contracted by EON to work on the commissioning of wind turbines at the same windfarm in the third quarter of this year.
