Alabama State Port Authority in the US has approved a $360m port-wide infrastructure investment programme for the Port of Mobile to improve its transport issues.

The fund will be used to construct new interchange and intermodal rail yards, as well as a new warehouse, a cargo yard and cargo terminals.

According to the port authority the fund will be spent in phases over the next five years.

The state-wide economic impact of the approved capital programme is estimated to be $7.9bn.
