STX Offshore Wins Cargo Ship Order

STX Offshore has secured a $912m order for 20 57,000dwt cargo carriers from STX Pan Ocean.

Under the contract, the South Korean company will build the vessels along with its Chinese unit STX Dalian Shipbuilding Complex.

STX’s Jinhae Shipyard and STX Dalian will build ten ships each, which are scheduled for delivery between 2012 and 2014.

STX Pan Ocean secured a $5bn transport deal in October with Brazilian company Fibria Celulose for the shipping of pulp from Brazil to the US, Europe and the Far East.

The freight contract is for 25 years from2012, and includes the transport of five million tons of cargo annually.
