Wärtsilä has secured an order for a fifth gas platform supply vessel (PSV) from Norwegian operator Eidesvik Offshore. The vessel will be fitted for use in arctic waters with 'winterisation' and de-icing applications, and is to be built at Kleven Verft in Norway.

The vessel will be fitted for use in arctic waters with ‘winterisation’ and de-icing applications, and is to be built at Kleven Verft in Norway.
The Wärtsilä VS 489 Gas PSV possesses enhanced energy efficiency, a new hull form, fuel flexibility and better vessel performance in areas such as fuel economy and cargo capacity.
The company said its gas electric propulsion system is based on a combination comprising the low loss concept for electric propulsion, the Wärtsilä 34DF main engines, and the recently introduced Wärtsilä 20DF engine.
