Noble has exercised an option with Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) to build an ultra-deepwater drillship.
The new drillship will be constructed on a fixed-price basis at HHI’s shipyard in Ulsan, Korea, at a cost of $615m.
The vessel is expected to be delivered in the second quarter of 2014.
The company said that this new vessel is the third such drillship to be ordered this year, increasing its number of floating drilling units to 27.
The new drillship will be based on a Hyundai Gusto P10000 hull design and is designed to operate in waters of up to 12,000ft.
