China-based Shanghai Construction (Group) General Company has started the construction of a new container terminal at Phnom Penh Autonomous Port in Cambodia.

The proposed 10ha terminal will have a total capacity of 120,000teu per year and a wharf platform that houses two 5,000t container berths.

The terminal is being built with a $28.2m loan from China and will be located along the Mekong River in Kean Svay, 30km east of Phnom Penh. Its construction will be complete within 30 months.

The new terminal will connect the port to Vietnam’s Cai Map port and help ship goods directly to Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and Shanghai, according to People’s Daily Online.
