Tsunamis Strike Japanese Ports Following Earthquake

Tsunamis of various levels have been recorded at ports across Japan, following an earthquake with a magnitude of 8.9 off the Japanese coast. The Japanese Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning for the Pacific coastal region from Hokkaido in northern Japan to Tokushima Prefect

Tsunamis of various levels have been recorded at ports across Japan, following an earthquake with a magnitude of 8.9 off the Japanese coast.

The Japanese Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning for the Pacific coastal region from Hokkaido in northern Japan to Tokushima Prefecture, with a 10m tsunami recorded at Sendai port, a 7.3m tsunami at Soma port and a 4.1m tsunami at Kamishi port.

Ships have been upturned and sent inland with the force of the waves, with many striking bridges and buildings as they are forced inward.

Further tsunami warnings have been issued for New Zealand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Hawaii and the west coast of the US.
