South Korea’s Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction (HHIC) has received an order to build two more 3,800teu containerships from Belgian shipowner Delphis.

HHIC subsidiary HHIC-Phil had previously signed the newbuilding contract with the Belgian company to build four container vessels and four optional 3,800teu container ships late last year.

The company said that out of the four optional vessels Delphi has exercised options for two and could still opt for the other two.

The vessels will be built at the Subic Shipyard in the Philippines at a cost of $50m each.

The ships are scheduled for delivery in May 2013.
