Washington Sells Steel Electric Vessels to Recycler

The US Washington State Department of Transportation Ferries Division has sold four 1927-built Steel Electric-class vessels to Eco Planet Recycling for $200,000. The vessels, Quinault, Illahee, Nisqually and Klickitat, were removed from service in November 2

The US Washington State Department of Transportation Ferries Division has sold four 1927-built Steel Electric-class vessels to Eco Planet Recycling for $200,000.

The vessels, Quinault, Illahee, Nisqually and Klickitat, were removed from service in November 2007 due to safety concerns.

The ferries will be towed from Washington's Eagle Harbor maintenance facility to Ensenada, Mexico, in July for recycling.
