Somali Pirates have seized an Indian cargo vessel with 11 crew members, using it to launch a failed attack on a super tanker in the Gulf of Aden, according to local reports.

The incident took place near Bosasso, a major port located in north Somalia.

“It was used as a mothership in an unsuccessful attack on VLCC tanker Elephant this morning,” East African Seafarers Assistance Programme head Andrew Mwangura told news agency AFP.

The hijack brings the total number of ships captured by pirates from Somali in the Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden to 15.
