Technology company Electromagnetic Geoservices ASA (EMGS) has launched the BOA Galatea, its second 3D EM survey vessel for hydrocarbon exploration.

Capable of transporting 200 receivers, the BOA Galatea has two high-power source systems.

Other features of the vessel include an advanced on-board processing system, sheltered deck and work areas, helicopter deck, conference facilities and modern workstations with broadband connection.

BOA Galatea also has a hospital ward as well as an extended weather window and large storage capacity.

EMGS chief executive officer Roar Bekker said EM data resulting from 3D acquisition provides better data quality, which can be easily incorporated into the exploration and production workflow as well as being interpreted alongside other subsurface information.

Constructed by Bergen Group Fosen, the purpose-built vessel has been leased on a long-term charter from the owner BOA Offshore.
