The Montreal Port Authority (MPA) and the Canadian Government are set to join forces to reduce harmful emissions and improve environmental conditions.

The MPA will obtain C$500,000 from Transport Canada’s Freight Technology Demonstration Fund towards the demonstration project, which uses a multiple-generator locomotive to decrease fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

Canadian Minister of Transport John Baird said the project would help the MPA to purchase rail technology and decrease air pollution.

The Freight Technology Demonstration Fund supports demonstrations that measure and test underutilised and new freight transportation technologies that lower air pollution in Canada.
