The Port of Long Beach in the US state of California will test a hybrid electric terminal tractor to move shipping cargo aimed at reducing its greenhouse gases and improving energy efficiency in port operations.

The hybrid electric technology will be tested at the port's SSA container terminal for three months.

The Electric Power Research Institute is organising a 12-month project, testing the tractor in a number of ports throughout the US and will evaluate performance and emissions data.
