Danish ferry operator Nordic Ferry Services has installed Scandinavia’s first completely automated vacuum-based mooring system made by international engineering group Cavotec MSL.
The MoorMaster units will be installed at Saelvig Port on Samsoe Island and another two at Hov port in Jutland, on the Danish mainland where throughout the year the units will carry out six to eight mooring operations a day, Nordic said.
The system features a 400K/N holding capacity. Each set of twin units is capable of holding vessels in place in wind speeds of up to 24m/s.
Cavotec MoorMaster group product manager Jakob Tolsgaard said that the system offers fast turnaround times and a secure environment for vessel crew and port workers.
An additional order of eight units is slated for installation at other ports in Denmark.
