The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) is providing S$2m to Ecospec Global Technology to co-fund a project to reduce greenhouse gas and exhaust pollutants from ship emissions.

Ecospec will test CSNOx- an advanced emission reduction technology, which uses sea water with an electrical method to convert the CO2 in natural bicarbonates, MPA said.

On successful completion and approval under International Maritime Organisation provision, CSNOx could contribute to global efforts to reduce pollution and greenhouse gas emissions from ships.

The CSNOx test-bedding project is supported under the $100m MINT Fund set up in 2003 to encourage research and development of maritime technologies by universities, research institutes and companies in Singapore.
