The US ports of Seattle and Tacoma have said they are working together to promote the Pacific Northwest as a regional gateway for marine business.

In a statement, the Port of Seattle said the ports have joined with the ports of Long Beach, Los Angeles, Oakland, and Portland, the BNSF Railway Company and Union Pacific Railroad to promote the West Coast as a green and efficient gateway for Asian cargo.

Ports in British Columbia are also competing for US-bound cargo, and expansion of the Panama and Suez canals offers new possibilities for shippers, the port said.
