China has reportedly urged its shipping lines to stay away from an area in the Indian Ocean where Somali pirates recently hijacked a China Cosco Holding company’s bulk carrier.

The country is presently trying to negotiate the rescue of the 25 crew members of the hijacked De Xin Hai, a Panamax bulk ship, Bloomberg said, quoting the Chinese Ministry of Transport.

The ship, which was transporting nearly 70,000t of coal from South Africa to India, was hijacked 550 nautical miles north-east of the Seychelles and 700 nautical miles east of Somalia.

The vessel had not been registered with naval forces in the area.
