China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) is planning an offshore facilities base in Zhuhai, Guangdong province, with an investment of up to $6.3bn.

According to reports, CSSC could build eight offshore product shipyards in Gaolan Harbor, a deepwater port in Zhuhai.

The first phase of the two-phased project involves four shipyards for offshore vessels.

The government expects the shipyards in the Gaolan Harbor to be capable of building offshore products such as an oil drilling platform.

The Zhuhai Government is also planning to attract manufacturers from Singapore and Korea to invest in the port.
