Royal Caribbean International has taken delivery of the world’s largest cruise ship.
The 225,000t Oasis of the Seas, which measures 361m in length and 66m in width, has been built by STX Europe at its Turku Shipyard, Finland.
According to STX, the $1.49bn ship, ordered in 2006, can rise up to 72m above sea level.
The vessel can accommodate 6,360 passengers and 2,100 crew members and has 16 passenger decks and 2,704 staterooms.
The Oasis also features a total power output of 97,000kW and can travel at speeds of 22.6kt.
The ship will cruise in the Caribbean from its home port in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The vessel’s sister ship, the Allure of the Seas, is scheduled to be delivered by 2010, STX said.
