Port Everglades in Florida has opened what it claims is the largest cruise terminal in the world at $75m.

At 240,000ft², cruise terminal 18 will accommodate Oasis-class ships, according to port officials.

Port Everglades director Phil Allen said while larger terminals that service two ships at the same time might exist, Terminal 18 was constructed specifically to handle one Oasis-class ship at a time.

Each Oasis-class ship is projected annually to generate nearly 584,000 passenger movements in the port.

The first of the 225,282t ships, Oasis of the Seas, is scheduled to sail in December.
