Wartsila Signs Ship Design Contract with ONGC

Wartsila has signed a contract to design 12 offshore supply vessels for India’s Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). The vessels will be designed by Wartsila and built by Pipavav Shipyard. Production of the first vessel will start in the first quarter of 2010.

Production of the first vessel will start in the first quarter of 2010.

Building of the ships is expected to be complete within 30 months, Wartsila said.

The 59m vessels, designed to provide back-up for search, rescue and standby support, can run at a speed of 12.5kt.

The vessels will also transport cargo between ONGC’s supply base and its offshore installations.
