South Korea has developed a hybrid quay wall, which it claims can reduce cargo handling time.
The quay wall is a floating concrete structure which enables both-side cargo handling for ultra-large containerships over 12,000teu.
The technology is expected to reduce cargo handling time by around 23% for 15,000teu ships.
The new system has been promoted by the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs with an investment of $10m (KRW11.6bn).
The technology is expected to enhance port service and productivity while cutting logistics costs for shipping companies.
