Norwegian-based Skaugen Group has launched the first of its multigas carriers at Skaugen JV Shenghui Gas & Chemical Systems’ facilities in China.

The Norgas Innovation will initially enter the fleet of Skaugen’s subsidiary Norgas Carriers and carry petrochemical gases and LPG.

In the second half of 2010, the vessel will serve Nordic LNG and its mini LNG business in Scandinavia.

Nordic LNG, a joint venture between Lyse and IM Skaugen, will supply natural gas to stranded customers which do not currently have access to pipeline networks.

The company believes the environmental impact of switching to gas will result in 25-30% less CO2 emissions, 80% less NOx and a 100% reduction of both SOx and particulate matters.
