Nordane Receives New Tug

Nordane Shipping in Denmark has taken the first delivery of four LR-classed tugs from East Isle Shipyard in Prince Edward Island, Canada.

The ice-class 1A vessel, measuring 101ft, is powered by a pair of Caterpillar 3516BHD diesels.

Nordane said the tug has been designed to produce 2,500hp at 1,600rpm.

Two of the four ships to be developed will be powered by Caterpillar 3516BHD diesels with 2,682hp at 1,600rpm.

The ice-class tugs will develop 60t of bollard pull while the non ice-class tugs will be capable of 70t of bollard pull, the company said.

Bow thrusters of 150kW will also be fitted on all four tugs, which will be equipped with auxiliary power to develop 165kW each.

The second vessel is scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2009.
