Marine vessels have topped the Korean annual export list with $43.1bn in sales, according to figures from the Korea Customs Service.
The marine industry is followed by petrochemical products ($37.6bn), wireless communication machinery ($35.7bn), automobiles ($35bn), and semiconductors ($32.8bn), the report said.
According to industry analysts, the rise in export is due to the increase in the number of ship vessel orders and demand for petrochemical products.
Total sales for the top ten export items reached $258.5bn, or 61.3% of Korea’s total exports, which represents the highest percentage in ten years.
In 1998, the top ten export items had shared 52.4%, and in 2006, 60%.
Since 1998, the largest volume in exports was either automobiles or semiconductors, according to the report.
