The US has agreed to help strengthen the Cambodian seaport security system to avoid nuclear smuggling and other radioactive material in the country.

The agreement Megaports Initiative will allow Cambodia to install radiation-detection equipment at the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port.

According to the agreement, US authorities will provide equipment and related infrastructure while also training Cambodian officials on the use and maintenance of the equipment.

The installation of equipment is expected to improve Cambodia’s ability to monitor cargo and underscore the importance of the country’s seaports in regional maritime security.
