The German Government has asked South Korean shipyards to delay the delivery hundreds of ordered vessels, a government official has said.

The shipyards have also been asked to reschedule the payments of the vessels, according to The Journal of Commerce Online.

The order for nearly 195 vessels, mostly container ships, is scheduled to be delivered in the coming months.

The call aims to help financially troubled German shipowners, affected by downturn in the global shipping market.
