Korea’s Hyundai Motor Group subsidiary Glovis said it will place an order to build three pure car and truck carriers (PCTC).

The 6,000-ceu vessels will cost the logistics unit $191.5m, the South Korean freight company said.

The company, which operates 14 PCTCs, including nine chartered vessels, expects the ships to be delivered by May 2012.

Glovis will transport about 440,000 Hyundai Motor export vessels in 2010, occupying around 25% of the carmakers’ entire export volume.

The company said it is also planning to expand shipping business by ordering more vessels.
