German-shipowner Jüngerhans has contracted engineering giant Wärtsilä to refit two of its vessels with slow steaming upgrade kits to cut fuel costs.

The upgrade kits offer considerable cost savings when slow steaming the ships, retaining the capability for full speed whenever necessary, according to Jüngerhans managing director Herm Jüngerhans.

"Wärtsilä slow steaming upgrade kits will give the ships considerable flexibility for adapting to the prevailing challenging market conditions," Jüngerhans said.
