NYK Orders Newbuild Vessels

NYK Global Bulk, the Handybulk carriers division of NYK, has ordered seven new vessels worth $190m, to be built at domestic yards. The Tokyo-based company has booked one 52,000dwt bulker and six Handysizes between 28,000-31,000dwt for delivery by 2013, according to asiasis.com

Under the company’s fleet-replacement programme, Oshima Shipbuilding will build the bulk vessel while the others will be split between several yards.

In February, compatriot Mitsui OSK Lines ordered two 200,000dwt Capesizes for delivery in 2011 and 2012.
