Horizon Lines has extended a US terminal services deal with APM Terminals North America, while also launching its own Pacific liner service serving Asia and the US.

The North Carolina shipping firm said the deal allows it to offer stevedoring and terminal services in Jacksonville, Florida; Houston, Texas; Los Angeles, California; Tacoma, Washington; and Elizabeth, New Jersey, until 2015.

The agreement includes an option for a two-year extension, Horizon said.

The company also said its planned trans-Pacific liner service between Asia and the US West Coast will use five 2,824teu-capacity US flag Hunter-class containerships.
