Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) said its container volumes increased by 63% in January compared to the same period a year earlier.
The Singaporean transport company handled 307,400feu between 26 December 2009 and 5 February 2010, up from 188,400feu the previous year.
The figure, however, is down from 312,500feu in the six weeks to 25 December, the company said.
NOL’s average revenue from each container fell 9% from a year ago to $2,417.
The company reported a net loss of $741m in 2009, compared to a net profit of $83m in 2008, with revenue falling 30% to $6.5bn.
