The South Korean Ministry of Knowledge Economy announced that a five-year blueprint will be released in the second half of 2010, according to koreatimes.co.kr.

The blueprint shows that by 2015 South Korea expects to have developed a ‘Smart Ship’, an IT-applied ship operating system and ‘Green Ships’ operated by eco-friendly fuel instead of diesel.

A number of methods are being examined including the use of fuel cells designed for electric vehicles and a new type of engine powered by alternative fuel.
