Capacity is to be expanded at the Oakajee Port & Rail deepwater port in Western Australia to 45 million tons a year, according to Oakajee Port and Rail.

Oakajee’s AS$4bn ($3.7bn) deep-water port, to be built near Geraldton in the Midwest region, is scheduled to start operations in late 2013 or early 2014.

The company said it has selected potential foundation customers such as Sinosteel Midwest, Karara Mining and Crosslands Resources for contractual discussions.
