NOAA said the $73.6m ship be used to study fish populations and collect oceanographic data off the US West Coast and in the eastern tropical Pacific Ocean.
The ship has been designed with navigation systems, acoustic sensors, scientific sampling gear and laboratories for fisheries and oceanographic research.
NOAA’s Office of Marine and Aviation Operations will operate the vessel in support of its Southwest Fisheries Science Center.
