Security forces from Somalia’s semi-autonomous Puntland region have freed a Panamanian-flagged cargo ship and arrested seven pirates.

The forces freed the QSM Dubai, hijacked on 2 June, after the pirates refused to surrender and killed the Pakistani captain of the ship.

The vessel, tracked along the northern coast of Puntland, was hijacked from the eastern end of the Gulf of Aden.

The ship’s crew were from Egypt, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Ghana.

The QSM Dubai was sailing from Brazil and carried goods for Somaliland and Puntland.
