Nine Vessels to be Built for Brazilian Offshore Exploration

Energy company Petrobras has awarded contracts for nine vessels to Norwegian companies.

The state-owned Brazilian company has awarded the contract to Deep Sea Supply, Eidesvik Offshore, DOF and Siem Offshore for the vessels, which will work offshore Brazil.

Deep Sea Supply will provide the Sea Bass and Sea Halibut PSVs on a four-year charter to Petrobras, which will commence operations by June 2010.

Petrobras signed a contract with Norwegian oil service company Eidesvik Offshore to deploy the PSV Viking Thaumas, starting in mid-September 2010.

The value of the contract is NKR250m ($38m) for four years.

Petrobras also awarded DOF ASA two four-year contracts for the Skandi Giant and a similar vessel for an undisclosed amount which will commence operation in 2010 autumn.

The oil major has contracted four AHTS vessels with Siem Offshore for four years with an option to extend the charters for an additional four years for $285m.
