El Salvador’s President Mauricio Funes has inaugurated a new port on the Gulf of Fonseca.

The president said that the port cost around $200m and that the way it will be administered has yet to be decided, according to the Latin America Herald Tribune.

The port was built by Japanese company Toa Corporation-Jan De Nul.

Japan provided a loan of $107m to the project and El Salvador contributed $93m.
