Transpetro, a subsidiary of Brazilian state energy company Petrobras, has launched the first ship built in Rio de Janeiro as part of the Fleet Modernization and Expansion Program (Promef).

The company said the 183m-long Celso Furtado is an oil product transportation vessel with a capacity of 48,300dwt.

Transpetro said 49 Promef vessels, built at various shipyards, have been commissioned as part of the government's growth acceleration programme.
