Somali pirates have hijacked a Singapore-flagged cargo ship carrying a poisonous chemical 60 miles off the northern tip of Somalia in the Gulf of Aden.

The 14,445t Golden Blessing, carrying glycol ethylene, used in antifreeze, was hijacked on its way from Saudi Arabia to India on 28 June.

The ship’s 19 Chinese crew are reported to be safe, according to english.people.com.cn.

The tanker is owned by Golden Pacific International and chartered to Shanghai Dingheng Shipping.
