Turkey will invest TRY450m ($285m) in the port of Izmir from 2011 through to 2015 to increase its container capacity to 900teu, according to the country's transport minister.

The expansion plan involves increasing the port's passenger pier capacity to accommodate up to six cruise ships at one time by adding 30,000m2 of additional ground space.

The government has already invested TRY34m ($22m) into the port this year and is also planning to build a container terminal with an investment of TRY200m ($127m) between 2011 and 2015, according to dredgingtoday.com.
