STX Signs MoU with Russia’s USC

STX Shipbuilding Corporation has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Russia’s United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) to build a new shipyard in Kronstadt, St Petersburg.

The South Korean shipbuilding group said it would help USC’s Admiralty Shipyard to modernise yard design and construction.

The MoU also includes the joint establishment of a technology centre at STX Finland’s Helsinki Shipyard for developing ice-class ships.

STX said the centre would take up the production of marine diesel engines designed for small and medium-tonnage ships, including gas carriers and chemical tankers.
