Chilean port operator Empresa Portuaria de Valparaiso (EPV) has opened bids for a $350m project to expand a terminal in the port of Valparaiso, north-west of Santiago.
The proposal will double the port’s capacity to 20 million metric tons a year by 2014, EPV said.
The terminal will be designed to handle one Panamax and two post-Panamax vessels simultaneously.
EPV said construction of the first phase will cost $250m and will be completed by 2012 and scheduled to start operations in 2014.
