Datang Power will add two ships to its fleet in an effort to enhance self-sustainability and stabilise freight costs.

The Chinese firm said the Datang Power 1 and Datang Power 2 will be operated by China Shipping International and Tosco Keymax, respectively.

The company said the additional freight capacity was needed by the group’s coastal power plants for the transportation of thermal coal, according to asiasis.com.

Datang’s fleet contains two Panamax bulk carriers while six newbuilds are on order from Jiangnan Changxing and Chengxi shipyards.
